In the end, it is close but the advantage of being relatively nearby to a Home Depot store regardless of where you live is what wins it for us. Their Project Loan finance option allows you to take out a loan of up to $55,000 for all the materials and tools you need for a home improvement project. There are also commercial accounts available with Home Depot. Home Depot offers an app too which is available on both iOS and Android.
The final thing to look at before we move onto the pricing of both outlets is the range of products that they offer. Home Depot also allows you to order online and then pick up the item in-store. This is a free service although in some cases there is a minimum purchase requirement. We may build a sliding door for one side of the building at some point in the future, but for now we’re really happy with the project.
Menards
While Menards is geographically limited to the Midwest, you’ll find Home Depot stores right across the country. If you can follow along with the directions in the booklet, you’ll probably be fine building one of the kits. But if the book isn’t clear enough, you may struggle with a building kit. There are no written instructions beside that booklet, so you’ll never receive anything written that’s specific your exact project.
The kit comes with most everything you’ll need to build the building from a materials standpoint, but it doesn’t come with any tools. For the purpose of this post, materials are something that’s used or consumed, like lumber, steel, or nails. A tool is something that’s reused, like a hammer, drill or ratchet strap. Here’s some background information, which might help you understand some of the decisions we made during the project. Target has nearly 2,000 stores that are spread about the country. They also offer in-store pick-up and delivery services too.
Menards vs Home Depot : Which is a Better Choice?
Well, this is exactly what we are going to find out. My husband and I have different strengths, skills and approaches. He can read architectural diagrams that are 2 dimensional with only lines and measurements, and see how the 3 dimensional structure is going to appear. I’m happy that we saved everything, because it wasn’t obvious some of the documents were as important as they ended up being. That’s basically how we ended up using the Design & Buy tool.
We planned to use a nail gun, so we got rid of the nails that Menards had included in the order by default. We also didn’t purchase the touch up paint, caulk, and a few other minor incidentals. Sure, we scratched the metal in a few places during the building process, but this is a shed – it’s not meant to be pristine. The Design & Buy program is somewhat limited by the information you supply it. So, to an extent, you need to start the process understanding what options you need and which you don’t, before you design your post frame building kit. The software isn’t going to check your zip code and make suggestions for you.
Menards vs Home Depot – Customer Service
I wish we’d just started down this path from the beginning instead of messing around with various shed plans. Using the Menard’s kit mostly saved us a lot of time – which is something we value. We always have more projects to do than time to do them, so when we can save some time, it’s a win. With this, you can design a project – a garage for example – and select all the different materials and tools that are required. It is a really good online service so you can plan and design your next DIY project and get all the tools and materials you need for it. When it comes to physical store locations, Home Depot is by far the largest out of these two home improvement retailers.
The written booklet provided was helpful, but a little too generic for me. I would have struggled to figure out what applied to our specific build, and what information I could just ignore. Granted, I have much less building experience than my husband. He relied on prior experience when he didn’t know what the next step was, and I would’ve been stuck. Because the metal colors were a special order, and there was some lumber that wasn’t normally stocked, we were given a 3 week timeframe.

Their apps don’t have the full range of functionality as Menards and Home depot but they are ideal for finding what you need and making a purchase. Menards, even though their physical stores are geographically limited, ship nationwide and they even ship to Canada as well. They have the option to buy a product online and pick it up at a Menards store if one is close by to your location. You can choose to go to a Menards Store and choose to get the items from the shelf yourself or pay a small fee and your order will be ready at the store. Ultimately, using the kit was much easier than trying to design & order everything all ourselves.
